The “big data” concept has traveled its arc nearly to the point of becoming yesterday’s catchphrase. You can’t get through the morning news recap without bumping into that guy, big data, or his partner in crime, “business intelligence.”

But big data is for big companies, right? I mean, what can we learn from our hundreds, or even thousands, of transactions? How can a small company possibly afford to pay for big data insights from external companies? The key here is to start somewhere, and if you’re new to this, a safe approach may just be to start small.
