Overall, my experience with Nurx was seamless. It only took me a short questionnaire, a few pictures and two messages back and forth with my doctor before I had all the information I needed to start using tretinoin. My provider prescribed me the lowest dose (.25%), which he says is the “starting” dose, just to be safe. He instructed me to start by using it two to three times per week, and then work my way up to every day as long as my skin didn’t react negatively to it.

The medication showed up in my mailbox a few days later, and I paid $90 upfront for a three-month supply. My one gripe with Nurx was the consultation fee, which isn’t covered by insurance, and the fact that they didn’t bill my insurance for something I have had insurance coverage for in the past.

However, I feel the price was offset by how convenient Nurx was for me. Instead of spending half an hour getting to my dermatologist’s office, an hour at the office and another half hour getting home, I was able to get the prescription I needed with a few quick taps on my phone. For a busy person, the efficiency factor may be worth the higher price tag.

I found the entire process to be incredibly easy, but according to reviews on Better Business Bureau, this isn’t the case for everyone. For the most part, people were unhappy with customer service and the price of medications. “Weeks between responses and then stopped responding,” one reviewer wrote. “Order for birth control was sent and then canceled. I am still charged with hardly any communication.”

“They overcharge for medication when you can get it cheaper elsewhere,” another reviewer wrote. “They charged me $55/month subscription on top of the $45 to talk to a doctor, just to pay $65 for a dozen pills.”

While Nurx might not be the perfect fit for everyone, if you’re busy or need to access medication quickly and easily, it can be a good option.
