Reeling New York Giants lose QB Daniel Jones for rest of season | New York Giants – USREPORT

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has a torn ACL in his right knee and will miss the rest of the season.

Giants coach Brian Daboll said an MRI on Monday had confirmed the injury but did not say when surgery will take place or whether any other parts of Jones’s knee were hurt.

Jones, who returned to the lineup on Sunday after missing three games with a neck injury, hurt his knee on the final play of the first quarter while looking for a receiver downfield. Jones was examined in the medical tent between quarters, ran on the sideline and convinced coaches and medical staff he could go back in. On the first play of the second quarter, he dropped back and his knee gave out again. He left the field in the 30-6 loss to Las Vegas and did not return.

Tommy DeVito, who was promoted from the practice squad this week with backup Tyrod Taylor on injured reserve, finished the game for the Giants.

Taylor is suffering from a rib injury, and Daboll could not confirm if the veteran quarterback will be available again this season. That leaves DeVito, an undrafted rookie, and veteran Matt Barkley, a recent practice squad signing, to play quarterback, unless New York sign someone else.

Daboll said he was going to meet with general manager Joe Schoen later on Monday to talk about the quarterback position. He said he plans to get DeVito ready for Sunday’s game against Dallas. The Cowboys beat the Giants 40-0 in the season opener.

DeVito was 15 of 20 for 175 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions on Sunday. He made his NFL debut the week before against the Jets after Taylor was hurt.

The Giants are in the middle of a miserable season. After Sunday’s loss they are 2-7 after reaching the playoffs last season. Jones, who was the No 6 overall pick in the 2019 draft, signed a four-year, $160m contract with the Giants this offseason.
